When time off is paid
You will receive disability payments from the insurer if your doctor authorizes time off work or modified (light-duty) work that results in lost wages.
- If your claim is denied within the first 14 days, you will not be paid for lost wages.
- If it takes longer than 14 days to make a decision, the insurer will pay for your lost wages until a decision is made.
- The first disability payment will be issued by the 14th day after your employer knows of your claim and of your disability, if your doctor has authorized disability.
- Notify the insurer within 30 days of your injury if you are missing wages from a second job. You may be eligible for additional time loss if your doctor authorizes time off or modified work from your secondary job.
You may also receive disability payments if you miss time from work to receive medical services for your injury. You are eligible if:
- The insurer accepts your claim as disabling, and
- Your employer does not pay wages for the time you miss.
When time off is not paid
You will not be paid for any time missed from work that is not related to receiving medical services or authorized by your attending physician.
You will not be paid for the first three days you miss work unless you are hospitalized or unable to return to work for at least 14 days.
- If your doctor releases you to any kind of work in the first 14 days after you are injured, you will not be paid for the first three days missed.
- If you are hospitalized overnight or unable to be released to perform work of any kind (at the direction of your doctor) during the first 14 days after you are injured, the first three days missed will be paid.
If you refuse a temporary, modified job offer with your employer at injury, and your attending physician has approved of the modified job, your time-loss payments can be affected.
