Health care providers can perform independent medical examinations (IME), worker-requested medical exams (WRME), or both once they complete a director-approved IME training and are placed on the
director's list of authorized IME providers.
A physical therapist (PT) or occupational therapist (OT) may be asked to perform physical-capacity evaluations (PCE) or work-capacity evaluations (WCE), along with an IME. In this case, the insurer must use the director’s list to select the physical therapist or occupational therapist.
