What is EDI proof of coverage?
Proof of coverage is the electronic record or set of records identifying an insurer as providing workers' compensation coverage for a specific employer.
Workers’ compensation insurers must file proof of coverage when they insure an Oregon employer. Proof of coverage must be filed whenever a new or renewal policy is issued, modified, canceled, or reinstated. EDI proof of coverage consists of electronic data elements needed for reporting various coverage events in order to determine the insured, employer, and the provider of workers’ compensation coverage for an employer at a point in time. This information helps the division ensure Oregon employers have workers’ compensation coverage. Oregon uses the IAIABC EDI Proof of Coverage Release 2.1 standard.
